Does anyone know what an HPV Vaccine does?
Here’s the thing about common knowledge. It’s almost never common enough. I heard about this just recently. I never like when the reaction to me not knowing something is wide out shock. ‘How did you not know this?’ We can’t assume everyone knows about everything, no matter how big a situation it is.
So here it is. I looked it up after the wide eyed shock.
The human papilloma virus is a virus transmitted mostly through sex. It was one of the most common forms of transmitted viruses. Basically if you’re sexually active, at some point, you’ll probably have it.
Now this Virus is not like those scary STD’s that make you itch, or burn, or… well let’s leave it at that. You might not know you have this. You may not even be aware you’re sharing it. It’s not as epically devastating as something like HIV, but it has it’s own drawbacks.
HPV has been linked to Cervical Cancer, Genital Warts and some lesser kinds of cancers. The HPV vaccine protects you against both kinds of the HPV virus (apparently their are two) and will lead to an overall lesser chance of getting the above. Even if you’re tested for HPV and are negative, this vaccine is probably a good idea. I have a doctors appointment in awhile and I will let you know if it’s covered under my medical.
So there you go. Don’t let anyone tell you that you ‘should’ know something. And don’t be embarrassed if you don’t. The internet is a useful tool for people who are not in the know. Just google it, get informed, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
And if you don’t want to do any of that, then ask me and I will boldly go in an ask my doctor about it so we can answer the questions together 🙂
